  • Peal and shred some potatoes and apply.
  • Apply aloe vera on the area. The inner gel of the aloe vera leaf has also been shown to speed the healing of radiation-induced burns.
  • Apply tea tree essential oil on the area (diluted).
  • Spray some Hair Shine directly on the burn.
  • Apply lavender essential oil on the area.
  • Make a paste with bentonite clay and apply.
  • Moisten a cloth with witch hazel and apply often for temporary relief. For small areas, apply with cotton balls.
  • Apply plain yogurt to the area.
  • Make a paste of arrowroot and water and apply.
  • An ice pack can help reduce pain.
  • Get lots of sleep.
  • Mix a cup of skim milk with 4 cups water (with ice cubes in it). Every few hours, apply compresses of this solution for 15-20 minutes.
  • The cool cucumber is often used for scalding burns. Slice it open and apply.
  • Put cold water on the burn. Like a cool bath.
  • Apply raw eggplant. In Australia, it is used to treat skin cancer.
  • Apply bruised fresh plantain leaves. It contains allantoin, which heals injured skin cells.
  • More than any other nutrient, experts recommend the placing of vitamin E oil on skin burns.
  • If the legs are burned, elevate them above the heart level.
  • Do not apply any product which has alcohol, mineral oil, coloring, or waxes in it.

Remedies for sunburn

I would just like to add that growing up in Ark. I learned from Aunties coming in from field work(sometimes badly sunburned) that a sliced tomato works wonders to stop the pain. Make sure that you pare back the skin of the tomato from the edges of the slice so that they don't scratch the burn. You'll be amazed at the relief!
