Why not Christ?

November 2006

I just noticed the sticky pad you attached on the application you sent me has a Scripture verse on it. The reference is Philippians 4:13. The sticky note has replaced “Christ” with “Him”. Of what benefit is it to replace the word “Christ” with “Him”?

Perhaps it is for ease of reading? As you know, English is not my native tongue. It could be that in my limited grasp of the language, I fail to understand that “Him” reads better or easier than “Christ”. That is why I’m asking you to clarify it for me.

Mind you, if the little quote in the bottom of this sticky pad said something like, “Alligator is another word for crocodile” or “Jesus was black” or “Apples are the best tasting fruit in the world”, I would not be writing you about it. I don’t agree with any of those 3 statements, but of what consequence is it to agree or disagree with any of them? However, the reference below that short statement in the sticky pad is alluding to the Scriptures. Anyone reading it may be led to conclude that it is a quote from the Scriptures.

It doesn’t really matter to me which Bible version you prefer to read. This is simply an inquiry as to why anyone would prefer to see it read “Him” instead of “Christ”. I also wonder how many other places has “he” or “him” replaced “Christ” or “Jesus”?

Awaiting your reply.
