A Divine Stewardship

Children are a divine stewardship. We believe that our children are really God's children, whom He has entrusted to our care. We believe in our parental intuition. We feel that as parents we know our children better than anyone else. We are better qualified than anyone else to recognize when something is "wrong." We also believe that God can inspire us to find answers for our children's health problems. We do not lightly cast that responsibility onto others, even to well-meaning professionals.

We encourage you to do likewise. You are responsible for your own children, whether you try some of our home remedies or whether you use a professional physician or healer. Make your decisions based on what you feel is best for your family, not on what we say or what others say. That is your right. Don't use any treatment that you don't feel comfortable with, be it herbal or medical.

Several years ago, one of our sons had a problem. At age six, we realized that his testicles had receded back into his body. We asked our midwife to call some of the doctors she knew to ask their opinion of the case. She called a couple of M.D.s, a naturopath and a chiropractor and reported that all of them believe that the only corrective method was surgery. Meanwhile, I had read that most surgeries for undescended testicles wind up causing the testicle to become sterile. I could see little point in this procedure. Some herbalists friends suggested I might try some male hormonal herbs, such as ginseng, but I wasn't sure that was the right approach either.

I prayed and thought deeply about the problem. I also gathered the family around and we all prayed for this son. Finally, a thought came to me. I realized that this son acted very childish for his age. He still used "baby talk" sometimes and often acted very "helpless." I began to feel that his problem was that he was feeling ignored. The "baby" in the family got all the attention, so he had concluded on some subconscious level that the only way to get attention was to go back and be a "baby" again. I decided that this boy needed more fatherly attention. He needed to be encouraged to do more "manly" things and that is exactly what I started to do.

Two months later, my son came to me and whispered, "Dad, let me talk to you." We went into his bedroom and he told me in a low, but excited voice, "Dad, my testicle has descended." We checked and sure enough it had. The next week, while he was taking a bath, I noticed that the other one had descended as well.

This happened without surgery or herbs. It happened because I was willing to follow my parental instincts instead of the advice of others. My boy could have been subjected to costly medical treatments or to a series of fruitless herbal therapies, but instead, some loving fatherly attention, coupled with the faith and prayers of the family had done the trick.

This book has shared with you valuable principles which can help you in the health care of your own family. However, it cannot replace your God-given parental instincts. You must learn what is best for your own family. This book was not designed to teach you how to treat cancer, diabetes or some other serious ailments. It was designed to provide you with understanding that will help you with common ailments. If you find your "home remedies" are not working or the problem is serious, you must be wise enough to recognize when you need professional help. However, with experience and faith you will find that those instances where the problem is beyond your experience and ability become father and father apart.

There is great satisfaction in having the knowledge to care for your own children. This knowledge has blessed our family. We pray that it will also bless yours.

I would like to say that the Berkey water filter has been a great investment. I t is the best water that I have ever tasted. It definitely is much better than the R.O. water that I have been using for years.
