Berkey Water Filters: PF-2 Arsenic and Fluoride Reduction Elements

$59.00 Quantity:

"PF-2 reduction elements are designed for use in conjunction with Black Berkey water purification elements to adsorb the following unwanted elements found in drinking water:

  • Fluoride
  • Arsenic V and pre-oxidized Arsenic III
  • Other residual heavy metal ions

Under normal conditions it is recommended that each set of two PF-2 elements be replaced after 1,000 gallons. The Royal Berkey system is about 3.25 gallons therefore the PF-2 filters should be replaced after 1,000/3.25 or 307 refills. If the system is refilled about one time per day, the PF-2's should be replaced after 10 months, if the system is refilled about twice per day, the PF-2's should be replaced about every five months). Actual capacity is dependent on the presence of other competing contaminants in the source water. High levels of Fluoride, arsenic and heavy metals may reduce the capacity and efficiency of the elements."

Water like it used to taste...
by Sean on Jul 16, 2007  [ reply ]

This is how I remember water tasting when I was a kid. Clean, clear water that is leaps and bounds beyond tap or even bottled water. The smell test is all you'll need to convince yourself. Fill the upper chamber with tap water, and while it's filtering, smell a glass of water poured from the purified lower chamber. I never noticed how much like a swimming pool my tap water smelled like before I started using my Berkey. I also recommend the PF-2 fluoride/arsenic attachments.

Why can't these be used with well water?
by Gina T. on Aug 27, 2009  [ reply ]

I see that it says not to use the PF-2 with well water, why? Our well water is documented to have a very high level of fluoride through out our entire area/region. We currently use an R/O system since we have young children but are looking for something that does not require electricity .It would be helpful to understand why this is not to be used on well water. Thanks for your help.
