Noses rejoice - mites beware. This high grade Eucalyptus Oil helps clear nasal and chest congestion caused by colds and sinus infections. Open inflamed bronchial tubes; apply in compresses to soothe muscle strains and arthritis pain, spritz a sick-room to kill germs. You can even kill tenacious dust mites on bed sheets by adding Eucalyptus Oil to your washing machine!
One of the most essential, essential oils you can keep on hand! Of all the essential oils, eucalyptus is one of the top three you should keep in your home health kit, because it helps so many common health problems—especially colds and respiratory ailments.
Long ago, eucalyptus users rolled the plant's dried leaves into cigars and smoked them to gain its benefits! Now the oil is distilled from the leaves of native Australian eucalyptus trees for much easier and more pleasant ways to enjoy its healthful effects.
Beeyoutiful's eucalyptus oil contains almost 30% more cineole (the healing component -- also called eucalyptol) than British standards require (USFDA doesn’t set a standard) for medicinal use. This is what packs the punch against germs, congestion and inflammation. And in the presence of cineole, parasites move out of the way, too.
For congestion due to colds, coughs, flu, asthma, and sinusitis, eucalyptus oil can reduce the mucus membrane inflammation of the upper respiratory tract and also loosen phlegm. Sprinkle a few drops onto a damp cloth and hold it over your nose, or try a Steam Inhalation for deep bronchial relief: Set a stable pan on a sturdy table, fill it with 6-8 cups of boiling water, and add 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil. Cover your head and the pan with a bath towel, closing your eyes and keeping your face a safe distance from the hot water. Inhale the steam deeply for about 10 minutes, taking breaks to cool off as needed.
Earaches are also soothed from inhalation because eucalyptus vapors open the Eustachian tubes, draining fluids and relieving pressure.
Disinfect a sick room to keep germs from spreading to others. Dilute a drop or two of eucalyptus oil in a spray bottle of water, spritzing liberally. Or diffuse the vapors in an aroma lamp or essential oil diffuser. Some research shows that up to 70% of stubborn Staphylococcus bacteria in a room can be destroyed this way. Diffuser World is where we buy our diffusers. Out of their excellent selection, our favorite is the Aroma-Pro Essential Oil Diffuser.
To help lower a high fever, add 5 drops of eucalyptus oil to 1 quart of lukewarm water. Soak cotton cloths (or even a t-shirt) in the mixture, wrap them around the patient's calves, and cover with dry cloths. (Be sure the patient has warm feet when you do this so the circulation can concentrate on the upper body -- where the infection most likely resides.)
Cuts, scrapes, and minor wounds tended with a drop of eucalyptus oil mixed with a little olive oil are benefited by eucalyptus’s infection inhibiting abilities. Antibiotic-resistant staph infections and boils often respond well to this simple procedure. So do ugly cold sores.
Sore throats, mouth sores, and gum disorders can be helped with a gargle made from a drop of eucalyptus oil diluted with water. (Straight eucalyptus oil—even in tiny amounts—can be very harmful so always dilute and do not swallow.)
Muscle aches and joint pain benefit from the anti-inflammatory effects of eucalyptus oil. Dilute several drops of eucalyptus with olive oil, and massage the affected area. Or add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to your warm bath water for a refreshing soak that helps lessen aching. This will also lift your spirits, a secret that the eucalyptus-loving, carefree koalas seem to know. (Eucalyptus oil is one of the main ingredients in Beeyoutiful's Eucalyptus Bath Salts -- an extra-luxurious way to soak away aches and pains!)
Reduce embarrassing dandruff by adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to your shampoo.
And if you or your loved ones suffer from dust allergies, check this out: Respiratory allergies, watery eyes, skin problems, runny noses, unstoppable sneezing, and other miseries from dust mites affect 15 million Americans. These miniscule, pesky critters feast on the 50 million dead skin cells that fall off a person’s body each day, and their allergy-causing excrement hangs in the air for up to eight hours. One of their favorite hangouts is bedding, and thanks to their sticky feet, it's nearly impossible to vacuum or wash them off. But eucalyptus oil can help!
To get rid of dust mites in your bedding: Add a generous amount of eucalyptus oil along with regular detergent to your washing machine load of sheets and mattress pads. Warm water is sufficient, so even wool blankets can be washed without damage to the fibers. Agitate briefly, stop the machine, let everything soak for 30 minutes, and then finish the cycle. Meanwhile, spray diluted eucalyptus oil on a towel, and wipe down the bare mattress. You might also give your pillow a good spritzing and set it in the sunshine to dry, just for good measure. (It also helps to replace your pillow at least once each year.)
Important: Because eucalyptus oil is so potent, it should not be used on infants or small children. Pregnant and nursing mothers should also avoid it since the oil readily soaks through the skin and into the blood stream. Steam inhalation should be avoided by those with heart or central nervous system conditions. Undiluted eucalyptus oil should never be ingested—even small amounts such as a teaspoon's worth are harmful. Although it is safe to use diluted eucalyptus oil as a gargle only, eucalyptus oil should never be swallowed. To avoid skin burns, always dilute eucalyptus oil with a carrier such as olive, almond, or grape-seed oil. If you are taking other drugs, eucalyptus oil may weaken their effect because of how it detoxifies the body.
Warning: Direct skin contact with Eucalyptus essential oil can cause minor burns. For external use only. Keep out of reach of Children.
