Description

Some insist that New Testament water baptism is not valid unless the one doing the baptism vocally utters "in Jesus' name." It is the conclusion of this study that the verbal utterance is never an issue in Scripture.

I read the little bit of information on your "Baptism In Jesus Name". I am so sorry that you feel that way. The reason the emphasises in the UPCI is put soley on Jesus name baptism is because when Peter preached on the day of Penecost, in Acts 2:38, (Acts meaning the acts you follow to recieve salvation, he is instructing us here) "Peter said unto them repent and be baptized EVERY ONE of in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall recieve the give of the Holy Ghost." Which I'm sure you know the scripture. If Peter taught it after being recieving the infilling of the Holy Ghost, and everyone in scripture was baptized that way then why wouldn't it be a requirement, Jesus thought it would be done in no other way other than all the New Testament examples. In what I believe baptizing in titles could be anyone, so since our Lord and Savior, is one Lord, and his name is Jesus then we need to adknowledge him by his name in everything we do including baptism.
What a beautiful gospel!

Well it's really simple. Jesus wasn't baptized in Jesus' name, now was he? And who are you or anyone else to say I don't have the Holy Ghost? I'm here to tell you I do and it had nothing to do with being baptized in Jesus' name or any other name. It has everything to do with faith in the blood of Jesus Christ as payment for my sin.

Acts 19:1-6 KJV (1)"And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul (who used to be known as Saul) having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples," (2) "He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost." (3) "And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism." (4) "Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of "repentance", saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." (5) "When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." (6) "And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came upon them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied."

John 1:15 "John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before: for he was 'before' me." John spoke of repentance and the coming of God (Jesus) in the flesh and believing on Him. The rest could not take place until "after" He was crucified. John played a vital role that I could go on and on about. But the point is case here is that John was announcing the kingdom of God is at hand (aka the end times) and everyone needs to repent and be baptized. This began over 2,000 years ago. John was announcing the fullfillment of the prophecy, getting everyone prepared for what was about to take place and for what is yet still to come this very day and the return of Jesus (Luke 1:17). He was saying Hello people! Wake up! Look at what is going on around you! Repent! Get it together! The time is drawing nigh! and still is. We're just a whole lot closer now then we were then. John baptized Jesus in order to fullfill all righteousness (Matthew 3:15) and then the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus in verse 16. John was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit from the womb (Luke 1:15).

*Jesus was not baptized in His own name because the messianic prophecy (Genesis 3:15) - the first messianic prohecy of Jesus (God in the flesh), see 1 Timothy 3:16) had not yet been completely fullfilled at that time. THERE IS NO AND CAN BE NO REMISSION OF SIN WITHOUT BLOOD. That's the way it was in the old testament/covenant and that's the way it is now. Even king David as a young boy understood this, see 1 Samuel 17:26. David knew that in order to be under the covenant he had to be circumcised and make atonement for his sins by presenting a blood offering to a priest. Under the New Covenant we must take on the name of Jesus by being covered by 'His' blood that he shed on Calvary. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. The lamb that was slain. That's why the Holy Writ (God's Word) says, we must evoke/invoke His name. Pleading His blood over us. There is NO power without the name of Jesus. If you continue reading from the passage I typed above in Acts 19 you'll read that Paul had the power to cast out evil spirits and heal the sick in verses 11 & 12. Then in verses 13 & 14 we read about the seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests. (13) "Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, "took upon them" (or took it upon themselves, both the name and later the spirits because they had no protection) to call over them which had evil spirits the "NAME" of the Lord Jesus, saying , We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth." Verse 15 "And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?" *We can not invoke/evoke His name until AFTER we have taken on His name. It is just like being married. That's why God's church is called a bride. We MUST be born of both water and (S)pirit (John 3:5,6 KJV)Notice the capital S in verse 5. Anytime spirit is referred to in scripture with a capital S, God is referring to Himself). This is His plan of salvation for His people, not just for salvation but for protection and power. We MUST be covered by the BLOOD. There is no other way. Believing isn't enough. There has always been 3 ways to salvation - grace, faith and "obedience."

Ephesians 6:12 KJV "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Matthew 28:19 KJV says "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." Father, Son and Holy Ghost are the TITLES of our One (and only) Soveriegn God.
He is a father, a son and He is Spirit.

When we pay our bills or cash a check we don't sign the remittance - Mother, Daughter, Sister...etc. etc. No, we sign our NAME. This is the only way for remission of our sins. In Jesus' Name.

*Baptism of the Holy Spirit - the infilling of God's Spirit - is completely seperate from water baptism, though many have received the Holy Spirit after being baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. We know and I have witnessed myself many receiving the infilling of the Holy Spirit before being baptized. Like myself. But the important thing to remember is that we still have to be baptized - full immersion in water - as was Jesus and in His name.

I do not think few if any people on the day of Pentecost were actually baptized in the name of Jesus. That is our transliteration of his name, one which progressed from Hebrew to Greek to Latin to English. The early church baptized in the name of Yeshua which is what Jesus Momma called him. AND since the strick proponents of Jesus Name only have gotten themselves baptized in whom we call Jesus and not the precise name that was biblically used they might want to consider following one of Jesus's last commands to men and be baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. This eliminates all the differences in how the actual name of God's only begotten Son is altered over the ages and keeps it simple and correct across all langugae and cultural borders.
