Berkey Water Filters: Berkey Light

Quantity:

We all know that clean drinking water is a part of the foundation to good physical health. Nothing can substitute for that.

Today, obtaining this whole-some drinking water may be harder than one might expect. Water may contain chlorine, lead, high levels of harmful bacteria, and other unwanted contaminants. Sometimes, these contaminants produce unpleasant tastes and odors, but often, they are undetectable by our senses. Even bottled water can contain these same contaminants, and can be expensive.

The Berkey Light is the most advanced passive water purifier available. It removes pathogenic bacteria, cysts, chemicals including herbicides, pesticides, foul tastes and odors, and reduces heavy metals without removing the healthful and nutritional minerals your body needs.

Other filtration systems are inferior. Most do not remove pathogenic bacteria and many remove beneficial minerals from the water as well. In addition, the Berkey Light is powerful enough to purify raw, untreated water from sources like lakes, streams, rivers and ponds.

Contaminants are captured on and within the micro-porous purifying element and are separated from the water. Each durable and efficient self-sterilizing element can be cleaned with a toothbrush or scrub pad and will last for 6,000 gallons.

The unit is made of durable copolyester which makes it rugged and lasting, yet its design is pleasing to the eye. Because it is transparent, there is no guesswork when refilling the system because the water level is always visible.

The elevated base allows the Berkey Light to be used directly on the ground or situated anywhere on a flat surface. The chambers and base join together so it is convenient to transport even while it is purifying water. Each unit holds 2.75 gallons and purifies at the rate of 4 gallons per hour.

It comes packaged with two Black Berkey purifying elements and sets up in minutes. Simply screw in the purifying elements and spigot, snap the chambers and base together and you are ready to purify! These purifiers work by gravity, so electricity is not involved.

For those of you who only have city water available, this purifier is a great way to get rid of the excess chemicals and dead bacteria found in your water as a result of the chemicals.

Those with access to well or spring water will find it purifies out all the excess minerals that give the water an odor and/or funny taste.

We have also known missionaries over the years that have used these water purifiers overseas with great success. Many have given it raving reviews. No matter where you live, this will guarantee you pure, drinking water at any time.

About the Optional LED Base (white or Blue)

The base has an optional eight-lamp LED lighting system, available in bright white or beautiful cobalt blue, allowing for optimum use day or night. Incredibly, the Berkey Light LED lamps have an average life of over 11 years of continuous use and are so bright the white LED’s can be spotted for more than a mile in the dark, yet they require very little energy.

The adaptable Berkey Light LED lighting system is designed for long-term use even when electrical power is not available. The LED lamps can be powered by the AC adapter (included with LED base) when electricity is available, or by the internal rechargeable batteries (included with LED base).

When power is not available, the Berkey Battery Adapter case (optional) provides an incredible two weeks of nighttime light from four small AA alkaline batteries and the Berkey MP Solar charger (optional) provides for an endless source of power. This makes the Berkey Light system the ideal camping-light and emergency light.

When used with the Berkey Light LED Base, these water droplets light up and glow and the resulting waves reflect soothing patterns of light onto the surrounding area. The lighting effects coupled with the melody of raindrops, combine to create a unique and relaxing atmosphere.

What’s more, the detachable base can be used as a stand-alone emergency flashlight.

The Berkey Light Water Filter arrived safe and sound by UPS last night. The ladies were out so Ben and I commenced preparation of the unit for immediate service. It was prepped within 15 minutes and filtering cool, clear water shortly after! Thank you so much! Frankly, I was amazed it was easier and quicker to set up than our faucet-connected unit.

We have had our Berkey for over 3 years and love it! (We have also had the same filters the whole time & just clean them once a week with a toothbrush) We fill it up at least once a day. My husband worked around pesticides all his young life and knows very well what they smell like. He can smell the pesticides coming out of the tap! (We live in a farming town) Sometimes our tap water is dark yellow! Gross! I am so glad we have this filter. The water tastes much better. We were using the pitcher filtrations but they don't even come close to the Berkey! It is in a class all by itself! I have never regretted buying this filter! It is worth every penny and then some. Highly recommended!

This is how I remember water tasting when I was a kid. Clean, clear water that is leaps and bounds beyond tap or even bottled water. The smell test is all you'll need to convince yourself. Fill the upper chamber with tap water, and while it's filtering, smell a glass of water poured from the purified lower chamber. I never noticed how much like a swimming pool my tap water smelled like before I started using my Berkey. I also recommend the PF-2 flouride/arsenic attachments.

I would like to say that the Berkey water filter has been a great investment. I t is the best water that I have ever tasted. It definitely is much better than the R.O. water that I have been using for years.

I purchased an overpriced soft water and R/0 unit 5 years ago manufactured by Covenant. The warranty was a lie, the customer service is nearly non-existent, in comparison with other companies similar products, the Aquativa product, 'warranty' and 'service should rate it a negative number. I purchased a Berkey Light and I have no complaints--what I do have is a very strong recommendation. I paid $5000 for that useless %&#$@. I should have, would, and will only buy a Berkey from now on. Extremely fine product and customer service. If you're considering buying a Berkey, please do it....you will be glad you did.

We are really enjoying our new Imperial Berkey water filter system. It's sooo much better than the distilling system we were using to purify our well water, and with no $15/mo electricity expense to run it, and no more waiting 4 hrs for 1 gal of purified water like we used to have to endure.

It's so quiet, that you can barely hear the water filtering down. The upper tank has been very easy to clean; I can clean it just by rubbing my hand over the filters and inner tank sides and bottom as I spray it out with the sink faucet hose, no brushes needed. What we can't understand is why this system is not more widely known about and used. One of those imponderables, I guess!

I HAVE THE ZEROWATER FILTRATION SYSTEM THAT IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD. WE USE A TDS METER TO TEST WATER BEFORE GOING IN THROUGH FILTER AND OUR WATER HAS 200 PPM OF CONTAMITES IN IT . BUT ONCE IT GOES THROUGH THE ZERO WATER FILTERS IT COMES OUT PURE WATER. WITH A GREAT TASTE AND PURE WATER

"BOB" if you are representative of zero water's clientele, I'll pass. "compare" not "compair" "contamites"??? what is that? All caps... don't get me started.

When using the Zerowater filter, you must use potable water only. The Zerowater does not remove pathogens; it simply makes the drinking water more agreeable in taste and smell.

We bought 3 systems. One for our house, one for our dance studio, and a third as a gift for a good friend. The Berkey's are a hit all the way around. We have been using the filters for five months, going through a tank a day. The water quality has remained consistent, always tasting great.

This filter makes the sink water taste better than bottled water!! Its clean crisp and pure in taste, no chlorine or metalic taste. It is just like the water I grew up drinking. I live in the city now and can taste the difference in the water, withou tthe filter it tastes strongly of chlorine and metalic substances. once its through the filter it tastes lik ethe water i grew up on in th ecountry. It tastes just as good if no tbetter than the water from the aquifers!! I highly reccomend this filtration system to anyone looking for clean pure tasteing water and save hundreds o fdollars in filtration of that water!!

We bought the Berkey Light for our kitchen and now I wonder if the water will keep fresh for a day or so? There are just two people in this home but we do drink lots of water but I was concerned about keeping it in the unit at room temp, air-conditioned of course. How fast will filtered water deteriorate? I can't find that info anywhere.

For Becky (Sept 2010) I live out of the US and have been using the stainless steel Berkey for five years now. LOVE IT! My answer to your question is anecdotal rather than scientific... I put some fresh water into the Berkey each day, but I do not usually completely empty the reservoir each day. If I use no water for two or three days (say a weekend away from home) I run a full cycle of water through the filters and drain it out then start "fresh."

I love my Berkey Light filtration system & I recommend them to people all the time BUT I also warn them not to purchase the LED because it just doesn't work. It's a nice idea but it doesn't hold a charge. The light can't go camping & it wouldn't be any help should the power go out. Even while plugged in after charging all night it still only shines for 15 min. The company was good enough to exchange it 3 x for me with no good results. Finally I gave up. The LED is still in my base reminding me what a wasteful example of stewarding my $ it was. I'm posting here to save other people from making the same vain mistake I did.

I wonder if it may be that the LED was not charged for 24 hours prior to using it? The directions say to plug it into the wall for 24 hours before you ever use it, and then it will hold its charge. I love the light! It's really pretty :)

I purchased a Big Berkey a few months ago. I have a musty smell in the bottom chamber. The smell appears within a few hours after filtering. I am wondering if it is in my tap water. Is anyone having that situation.

Could it be due to not priming the filters long enough? I am not sure if it will help, but it wouldn't hurt to try~~ I know that if the filters are not primed long enough (at least 60 seconds or longer), they will turn the water cloudy... which may make the water taste different?

I am very interested by this Berkey Light. I like that it can be used camping as an additional flashlight as well. The number of contaminants in our city water is enough to cause medical alarm to me personally; I think that there needs to be further legislation that demands better water quality for us. I will definitely be purchasing one of these; it seems well worth the investment!

I received my Berkey today. My son came home from school and announced that the water was "perfect!"
It was easy to put together and I suspect it will be easy to clean.
The shipping was fast and the support people I talked to were amazingly nice.

I would definitely recommend this Berkey to EVERYONE and definitely buy it through this site because these people are swell.
:)
Thanks!

Laurie, my berkey also has a musty smell in the bottom filter chamber, but only after sitting after 2 days without use and full or half full of water. Like the other girl states, maybe needs to be flushed if not in use and water should not be stagnet sitting for more than 2-3 days. I have yet to hear another person find this out and state the same thing. The water tasted perfect at first, but 3 days later, there is a "tin-like" taste in the water that I don't like, so I re-filled, and it goes away. Guess I didn't need to get the really big one. Maybe could of gotten by with the smaller one, since you want to use the water up in a reasonable amount of time and re-fill regularly.

I also struggle with the musty smell in the bottom chamber. I contacted the New Millenium Concepts and she suggested replacing the spigot. I did that with high hopes, but still the musty/icky smell after less than 24 hours. I think I will try new filters next. My family likes the taste of the water before it turns foul smelling. I hope I can fix this problem.

Our family has been enjoying our Berkey Light for almost six years now! Hard to believe! We are a family of 7 going on 8 and We are still using the original 2 filters that came with it. It works just great!
We take it when we travel and extended family fill their water bottles from it before they make their trip home! They can taste the difference! One of the best decisions we made! Thanks for carrying these!

We are interested in buying the Big Berkey. My question is, would the Big Berkey the best? We have a family of 4, with the potential of 6-8. In a disaster, would this filter out all the contaminates in our cities water system? And for longevity, would this hold up the longest?
Has anybody done the research?
Thank you...
